A man has been airlifted to hospital after falling from a balcony at a property in Te Awaiti, on the south Wairarapa coast, this afternoon.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard, was called to the scene at about 2pm and was able to land at a neighbouring property. The crew was then directed to the injured man's house about 100 metres along the road.
"As we understand it, the man was leaning on the railing of the balcony when it gave way," helicopter crewman Colin Larsen said.
"He has fallen approximately 3 metres and appears to taken the brunt of the fall on his head and shoulders".
The man was stabilised before being flown to Wellington Hospital where he was being assessed and treated this evening.
