Meat and Wool New Zealand has made 21 Wellington-based staff redundant as the producer board restructures in the face of farmers ending the payment of levies on wool.
The organisation has also changed its structure.
Regional staff now either have a function collecting statistical data or farm extension, but not both.
North Otago board member David Douglas said the restructuring was aimed at moving more of the organisation's activities away from Wellington.
Farmers last year voted to stop paying levies on wool, which forced Meat and Wool to cut $6.3 million from its budget and saw it stop or slash funding for 23 projects.
Details of the new structure will be announced at the board's annual meeting in Te Kuiti next month, where it is understood it will unveil a new name, Meat New Zealand, reflecting the ending of its wool functions.
