The organisers of Winter Games New Zealand are working hard to secure funding for the next games, and expect to make a decision on the frequency of future games within the next month.
After spending a couple of months evaluating the inaugural August 2009 Winter Games, the board had presented its report to all involved parties.
Winter Games New Zealand chief executive Arthur Klap said the past two months had been spent on discussions with the venues involved in the first games.
"We are getting great support from the venues and they all express interest in being involved again, whether the games will be held every two years or four years," he said.
The board of directors will have their first meeting of the year next week, and one of the main topics for discussion will be how often the games should be held.
Winter Games chairman Eion Edgar had previously told the Otago Daily Times he would prefer to see the games held every two years.
The chief executive shares this sentiment.
"A two-year frequency would be ideal.
"But right now it all comes down to funding.
"We are very busy talking to the previous partners and sponsors and with the Government.
"Hopefully, we will be able to announce a decision shortly after the Winter Olympics this month, so we can start working towards our next event," Mr Klap s
