Kiwi movie star Cliff Curtis came home to get married but the identity of his new wife remains a mystery.

Curtis, who has appeared in Hollywood films such as Collateral Damage with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Training Day with Denzel Washington, Die Hard 4.0 with Bruce Willis and Three Kings starring George Clooney, got married at his family marae at Lake Rotoiti, near Rotorua.

Auckland freelance photographer Maurie Hill told the Herald on Sunday he was holidaying Rotoiti when he "suddenly discovered a bit of excitement in the place".

"She was a pretty Asian girl, she had about a dozen bridesmaids and a large number of whanau," he said.

"They all seemed excited. They left on the boat at about 3.30pm -- she was quite a doll."

Uncle Toby Curtis said the bride's family had travelled from Asia, and about 200 mostly family guests attended the wedding.
