Gates stolen from the Otago Softball Association are slowly being recovered but there are fears some may have been sold to unknowing buyers.
The OSA appealed for help last month after discovering about 50 gates, used for ringing outfields and worth about $8000, had been stolen from its Ellis Park base in Kaikorai Valley.
Dunedin police have been investigating the theft.
Their inquiries have led to a Dunedin man and charges are expected to be laid.
About 14 of the 3m by 90cm gates have been recovered.
Police believe many of the stolen gates were sold through various avenues, including online.
Some sales may have been as small as one or two gates, so there may be several members of the public who have unwittingly bought stolen gates.
People who suspect they may have bought some of the gates have been asked to contact the police.
