Man arrested in Chch shooting

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a 24-year-old was shot in Christchurch yesterday.

He will appear in Christchurch District Court on Saturday, Acting Detective Inspector David Long said.

The victim was in a serious but critical condition today in hospital following surgery.

He was shot in the chest at a house in the suburb of Woolston about 11.30pm yesterday and taken to hospital by an associate.

Police were still looking for the firearm, believed to be a pistol, Mr Long said.

The shooting followed an earlier incident at another Woolston address, which led to windows being broken and offenders leaving in a red Mazda Astina.

The car was later found burned out in Marine Parade, New Brighton.

Another vehicle, which was believed to have been used to take the victim to hospital around midnight, has been located and was also being examined.
