Luke, who had already won the South Island year 5 to 9 age category, has won $12,500 cash for Weston School, along with prizes for himself.
His creation will be used to help promote Kmart's 2009 Wishing Tree appeal, which starts today and will run until Christmas Eve.
Weston School principal Nicky Ryan said she was delighted.
"He wants to be an artist when he grows up, so it looks like he has made an early start. It will be wonderful to see his artwork being used to promote the appeal." she said.
Kmart NZ manager Sue Smith said wishing trees would be in all Kmart stores.
New Zealanders were being encouraged to donate gifts which would be distributed by the Salvation Army and Barnardos to families in need.
