The medical aid boat, run by Marine Reach Ministries, a branch of Youth with a Mission, docked in Dunedin yesterday on a tour of New Zealand.
Captain Jeremy Schierer had many stories of the "miracles" dentists, optometrists and other medical professionals performed during the charitable organisation's 19 years of operating around the Pacific.
More than 11,000 eye and dental procedures were performed in Fiji between April and August this year on six, two-week voyages, he said.
Most of the medical professionals came from New Zealand and would do two-week stints on the boat during their holidays.
The national tour was to inform people about the organisation's work and its aims.
Captain Schierer wanted to "challenge people to consider doing something bigger with their lives".
Crew members will visit schools and the boat will be open to the public from 9am-4pm on Saturday and 1pm-5pm on Sunday before departing on Monday.
