Big Boy the sheep looks to the heavens after being taken to attend the annual St Luke's Church Blessing of the Pets service in Oamaru on Sunday by owners David Heffernan (left) and Levi (2), of Enfield. Photo by David Bruce.
The 5-year-old pet sheep earned his name because he weighs 145kg, which Mr Heffernan said was because he had been hand-raised since he was born.

Big Boy, along with Shetland pony Max and about 20 other pets were at the service, accompanied by owners and other parishioners.

A piper led the pet parade from the hall to the church for the blessing and main part of the service.
