Chaparella emphasised the loss of her dam, Peak Time, when she won a 1355m maiden race by 10 and three-quarter lengths at Gore yesterday.
The 3yr-old filly having her fourth start, is trained at North Taieri by Steven Prince for the Bonnie and Clyde syndicate.
The 12-person Mosgiel-based syndicate has Chaparella leased from Jacqui O'Donnell, a neighbour of Prince.
O'Donnell and her late husband, Bernie, bred Chaparella.
The syndicate has La Bon Bon, the winner of two races, with Prince.
La Bon Bon, who has not raced since May, resumed work on Friday.
Chaparella is the only foal left by Peak Time, a Straight Strike mare who won five races when trained by Jan Hay for the O'Donnells.
Chaparella is by High Chaparral, winner of the 2002 English Derby and sire of many winners in Europe.
She is from the first New Zealand crop of High Chaparral, the sire of Monaco Consul, winner of the Spring Championship Stakes in Sydney this month.
Peak Time died the year after foaling Chaparella.
She had been served by Spartacus.
"She [Chaparella] was nominated for the One Thousand Guineas but I pulled her out after a bit of a hiccup in her preparation," Prince said.
"I will give her another race, then give her a spell and aim at the guineas races and races for fillies."
Prince had a third with Thistle and fourth with Malissimo, the other two horses he raced yesterday.
He had to scratch Chief Ruler, who got down in the transporter travelling to the meeting.
Chief Ruler took skin off his hip.
Our Bee Jay, an entrant for the Two Thousand Guineas, began his 3yr-old campaign with a win in the race for 3yr-olds yesterday.
He carried topweight of 57kg.
O'Ceirins Angel won the listed race for mares and fillies at Hawera for the second time on Saturday, NZPA reports She is trained at Foxton by Sandie Cookson for her partner Wayne Keenan.
• O'Ceirins Angel has the $70,000 Cuddle Stakes (1600m) for fillies and mares at Trentham on October 24 as her next assignment.
The mare has a record of 34 starts for nine wins, three seconds and five thirds and the $50,000 stake took her stake earnings to $259,000.
The John Boon-trained Santa Anita easily won the Egmont Cup.
Boon won the race in in 2005 with Cluden Creek.
Buddy Lammas, the rider of O'Ceirins's Angel, was suspended until midnight on October 21 for careless riding.
He admitted allowing his mount to shift in, causing a check to Culminate at the 1100m.
He was also fined $600.
Rogan Norvall, who rode Santa Anita, was suspended from Thursday until the following Wednesday inclusive for careless riding on Killarney Lass in race two.
Andrew Scott, the Matamata trainer, was fined $500 for presenting San Delago to race in work shoes at the Matamata meeting on Saturday.
Azamara bled from both nostrils.
She is ineligible to race in Australia or New Zealand as it was the second time she had bled.
