Land strife settled

A long-running dispute between the Central Otago District Council and vineyard owners over the council's proposed wastewater treatment plant at Clyde has been settled.

Environment Court Judge Jon Jackson was told the case had been settled through mediation, when parties appeared at a pre-hearing conference in the Environment Court at Queenstown recently.

Agreement was reached through altered access to the proposed treatment plant site.

In 2008, the council applied for, and was granted, redesignation of a 5.4ha site after its previous designation lapsed in 1998.

The council had proposed to use the site for such development years ago, and sought to have the land redesignated in order for it to be achieved.

However, in the meantime zoning for some land nearby had changed, allowing small lifestyle blocks to be developed in the area.
