Scientists have finished examining the scene of a fatal Palmerston North shooting, though police are still to say how a 32-year-old man came to die from a single gunshot wound.
The body of Jamie Martin Faulkner was found in the grounds of a block of flats in Heretaunga Street on Friday afternoon.
A firearm, believed to have been used to kill him, was found beside him.
Police later spoke to a man thought to have had an altercation with Mr Faulkner.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said police were trying to find out about that altercation and any possible relevance to the death.
Police were still speaking to witnesses and seeking the occupants of two vehicles described by witnesses. "The first vehicle is described as a white builder's van. The second vehicle is described as a red car which was parked in Heretaunga Street," he said.
An autopsy in Wellington yesterday confirmed death was due to a single bullet wound.
