One case, one day and one heck of a title.

That is how one group of University of Otago business students viewed their Saturday as they took part in final round of the National Business Case Study League.

Teams of four from six New Zealand universities were given a case study about a winery which wanted to enter the Chinese market.

They were given five hours to create a plan to achieve the goal.

They were then thrown into the "lion's den" to give a 10-minute presentation to four judges, followed by 10 minutes of, sometimes brutal, questions.

The Otago team of marketing students Claire Jackson, Tim Vaughan and Scott Cardwell and finance student Nathan Rose, believed the competition helped hone business skills and taught them more in a short time than hours in the classroom.

Winning the title was not just about glory and bragging rights but about being able to show future employers they had the nous to make it in business.
