A quake measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale has hit Fiordland this afternoon.
The quake struck at 2.51pm and was centred 80km west of Te Anau at a depth of 12km.
It was probably felt in southern Fiordland and possibly western Southland, GNS Science said.
Southland and Fiordland have experienced a series of aftershocks following a 7.8 earthquake - the biggest in the world this year - in Fiordland last month.
