With tenders to build Queenstown Airport's new runway extension area (resa) due to close tomorrow, the corporation is buying Shotover Delta land to put it on.
"We are purchasing that land from Queenstown Lakes District Council," Queenstown Airport chief executive officer Steve Sanderson said.
A boundary adjustment application has been filed with Lakes Environmental to subdivide and join three titles on the eastern escarpment of the delta bordering the airport's runway.
He said valuing the land had not been completed, so he could not comment on cost.
Mr Sanderson said the airport had already changed the designation of the land and all that was left was to subdivide it and buy what was needed.
QLDC chief executive officer Duncan Field had signed the "affected party" approval and everything was on track for work on the resa to begin before the end of the year.
"Tenders close on Friday and we will take a couple of weeks to look through the documents," Mr Sanderson said.
