Evidence ends in Weatherston trial

All evidence has been completed in the murder trial of Clayton Robert Weatherston in the High Court at Christchurch, and the court will begin hearing closing addresses on Monday.

The last of the defence psychiatrists was heard today, and the testimony ended mid-afternoon, when presiding judge Justice Judith Potter adjourned the court for the week.

Today is the 17th day of the trial in which Weatherston, a 33-year-old university tutor, denies the murder of Sophie Elliott, 22, at Dunedin in January 2008, by stabbing her 216 times.

He has indicated he would admit manslaughter, with the defence claiming provocation.
