Remarkables Ski Area is encouraging people to get the bus to the skifield to limit traffic on the notoriously daunting access road.
Ski Area manager Ross Lawrence said the road had been upgraded over summer with the installation of 3.6km of new barriers, making it safer and easier for two-way access.
Carrying snow chains was advisable for any alpine drivers, but he was hoping they would not be required on opening day.
Tomorrow's weather forecast looked "stable", and the roads would be well-gritted, he said.
However, he encouraged people to take advantage of the bus service to limit traffic, save parking spaces and protect the environment.
The bus was free to all-day or multi-day pass holders from the Queenstown Snow Centre.
