'Three of The Peaks', by Wellington sculptor Rebecca Rose, may be the next purchase by the Aspiring Arts and Culture Trust.
The Aspiring Arts and Culture Trust is considering buying its next piece of public art - three metal sculptures by a Wellington artist - for $30,000.

Chairwoman Janet Malloch, of Wanaka, will talk to artist Rebecca Rose about reserving three of the five pieces that make up The Peaks, it was resolved during the trust's meeting in Arrowtown this week.

The sculptures were earmarked for public display on Bridgeman Green, in Wanaka.

Trust liaison officer Carrick Jones showed the Wanaka Community Board photographs of the artwork on Tuesday and indicated the trust's intentions to install the sculpture, "but nothing was put forward yet for a decision by the community board," chairman Lyal Cocks said.

The 2m-tall steel sculptures consist of hundreds of cut steel patterns welded together.

Each one was designed so a light could be installed at the base to project patterns on to nearby surfaces.

Trustee and former chairwoman Jeri Elliot, of Queenstown, said any proposed purchase would be co-ordinated with QLDC community services.
