The Omarama Airport is enjoying a surge in activity, with aircraft movements exceeding those of last year.
Omarama Airfield Ltd, which operates the airport, this week presented its half-yearly results to its part-owner, the Waitaki District Council.
Omarama Airport Ltd chairman Hugh Cameron said landing fees had "increased to quite an extent", and were 10% better, even when an increase in the fee from $6 to $7 was taken into account.
New commercial activity at the airport, which mainly related to gliding, had helped boost takings.
The whole year could be even better - this week's result was for the first six months until the end of last year and Mr Cameron said traditionally more income came in after Christmas.
In the first six months of the financial year, the company's income was $56,872 compared with a budgeted $48,600.
Expenses at $34,270 were slightly higher than the $32,100 which had been budgeted.
However, the company still managed a net operating surplus of $22,602, compared with $16,500 it budgeted.
