Faces of wine shown

More than 70 historical painted portraits - including one featuring local "pioneers" - will be going on display at the Lakes District Museum this month, celebrating New Zealand's wine history.

Looking Down the Barrel - The Face of New Zealand Wine opens in Arrowtown tomorrow.

The major exhibition is being toured by the National Portrait Gallery in Wellington.

Curated by Cuisine Magazine wine writer John Saker, the exhibition will ultimately tour around Europe and the United States.

The exhibition features more than 70 portraits of wine pioneers from New Zealand - from colonial administrator John Busby to present day wine-makers.

It "allows us to follow the extraordinary journey of New Zealand wines", Mr Saker said.
