Witt (25), the former New Zealand Warriors stand-off who was signed by the Otago Rugby Football Union last month, met his new Taieri club-mates last night at Peter Johnstone Park and immediately grabbed some boots and went into team training.
Witt said he had a good feeling about the shift south and was looking forward to the new challenge of rugby.
"This is just another avenue to examine and rugby is something new. As a game it is world wide and I really want to be involved in it," Witt said.
Witt and his wife, Angie, would move south permanently next week, and he would turn out for Taieri against Pirates on April 18.
He said the couple were not daunted by moving to a place where they had never lived or visited, and it was just another opportunity in their lives.
The former Queenslander admitted rugby and league were different games but he had been studying up on rugby and was keen to play in the inside backs.
The first step was to play well for Taieri and hopefully the opportunities would come.
He was not upset about being discarded by the Warriors, saying it was a professional game, and he had the great memory of the club's play-off run last year.
