Sharemilk winners

Ashburtan farmers dominated this year's Canterbury-North Otago Sharemilker of Year competition announced in Christchurch on Wednesday night.

Graeme Wall and Shelley Singer, who sharemilk 1400 cows, won the title from second-placed Warren and Julia Bent, who sharemilk 1200 cows, and lower-order sharemilkers Keith and Rose Townshend, who were placed third.

The farm manager and farm trainee of the year also came from Mid-Canterbury.

Matt Ward, from Rakaia, was the region's farm manager of the year and Emma O'Connell, also from Rakaia, was the trainee of the year.

All three winners will now compete for national titles and a prize pool of more than $100,000 in Wellington in mid May.

The Otago regional winners will be announced in Balclutha tonight.
