Campaign seeks support for retaining camp ground

Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park manager Gordon Martin yesterday launched a campaign to drum up support for retaining the camping ground in the centre of town.

Mr Martin has published a feedback form in a weekly circular, The Upper Clutha Messenger, asking people to have their say, fill out the form and return it to him or to drop-off points at six supporting Wanaka businesses by 12 noon on February 27.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is also calling for submissions, with the same closing date, using its own feedback form, which is available from the council offices in Ardmore St.

Submissions can be posted, handed in or emailed to the QLDC, with documents available from the office or www.qldc.govt.nz

Mr Martin said he decided to put out a different feedback form because he had fielded numerous calls of concern since the QLDC released reports on the camping ground and sports facilities issue.

One person he had spoken to had indicated she could not go to a public open day on February 11 and "there appeared to be no form available where you could just ticket [sic] the boxes and make comment".

Mr Martin said his form was very easy to complete and "best covers the concerns expressed by [residents]".

The council's feedback form has been available since the open day and can still be obtained.

Wanaka council administration officer Claire Williams said yesterday the council's usual practice with community-generated forms such as that being advertised by Mr Martin was to treat it as one submission, signed by all those who used it.

Using an official council feedback form would carry more weight, she said.
