Fulton Hogan lays off staff

Twenty four staff at Fulton Hogan in Dunedin have been made redundant.

Regional manager Craig Stewart confirmed the number yesterday, having signalled last month that the company was negotiating to cut its 260-strong Dunedin workforce by almost 10%.

Mr Stewart said the 24 redundancies were "across the board".

Asked if the Government's proposed infrastructure spending package might mean more work for the company, Mr Stewart said at this stage it was "an unknown quantity" and did not play a part in the company's decision.

Prime Minister John Key is due to announce the $500 million package at 9am today.
