A pregnant woman suffered smoke inhalation from a chimney fire in Milton on Saturday.
The woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital for treatment after the fire, which occurred just before 5pm on Saturday.
Senior Station Officer Mike Moeahu, of the Milton Volunteer Fire Brigade, said the woman was "just a bit uncomfortable'' following exposure to smoke.
Firefighters vented the smoke-logged house in Johnson St and provided first aid to the woman until paramedics arrived.
"She was just getting her kids and husband out [of the house] and she was just in there a bit too long,'' Mr Moeahu said.
"We kept her stable and gave her some oxygen until the ambulance arrived.''
A St John spokesman said the woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition.
He could not provide further details.
A Fire Service spokesman said the chimney was blocked and the house became smoke-logged.
