Performers from all over Otago converged on Oamaru's Opera House to take part in the Oamaru Tap Dancing Association's 50th festival over the weekend.

A total of 63 dancers from as far away as Dunedin and Ashburton, ranging in ages from 4 to 18, competed.

Association secretary Dianne Mills said the highlight of the weekend was the performance from two Christchurch groups who came to dance for the crowd on Saturday night.

The standard of dance seen was "very high'', she said.

Annalise Kilgour (9), from St Joseph's School, who competed in seven dances during the two-day competition, said practising for the competition was tiring and the best way to cope was to "flow with the music''.
