Letters singed in post box arson attack

The attempted arson of a Dunedin post box at the weekend has left several letters singed.

A New Zealand Post spokeswoman said someone attempted to set a post box on fire at 9 Brockville Rd.

"We're disappointed by this act of vandalism,'' she said.

"While the box itself was not damaged, seven letters in the box were singed and they will be sent on to the addressees with a letter of explanation.

"Luckily, the remaining 10 mail items were undamaged.''

Neither police nor the Fire Service were called to the attempted arson.
