A mixed bag of weather is in store for the country this weekend.
There will be high pressure across New Zealand with a cold front trapped in between, WeatherWatch head analyst Philip Duncan said.
Saturday would be calm and settled in the North Island.
Some coastal areas of the upper western North Island and Auckland may get isolated light showers. However, the day was looking dry.
Waikato could expect cloud and fog patches.
A mild, dry Saturday was on the way for many eastern areas, but rain was expected on the West Coast, heavy at times, as it moved slowly north.
Southland and Otago could get late rain and Canterbury could expect overnight showers on Saturday.
On Sunday morning, the cold front would move into the lower North Island with high pressure to the north and south of it.
It would fall apart as it slowly moved towards the central North Island later in the day.
Western areas would be the wettest on Sunday but eastern areas may get a few showers.
A secondary high rolls into the South Island on Sunday and merged with the North Island high gradually throughout the day.
Sunday would become dry in the South Island with light winds, cooler from the south at first but fading as the centre of the high rolls in later, Mr Duncan said.
