A crane is being used to clear the road following a crash between a milk tanker and a truck near Edendale this morning.

Police said this afternoon the driver of the milk tanker had to be cut from the cab of his truck.

Both drivers sustained moderate injuries in the crash. One was taken to Southland Hospital, and the other to Dunedin Hospital.

The road was confirmed to be reopened at about 5.30pm.
