A fundraising goal to produce a documentary about a Dunedin wrestler has been achieved.
Writer and director J. Ollie Lucks, of Dunedin, said he was "grateful'' for the more than $7000 given by the public.
The fundraising campaign to make the documentary The King in the Ring closed last night and had reached its $7000 target at 2.30pm yesterday.
The money would be used to film the gastric banding surgery of Dunedin wrestler Wilbur McDougall at Southland Hospital on June 15.
The success of the fundraiser showed the public had an appetite for the documentary to be made, and "gave weight'' to a application with the New Zealand Film Commission to fund the rest of the film, Lucks said.
"There are a lot of other documentaries applying for funding - it's a ... battleground,'' he said after the target was met.
