A Hillside Bluff property has been snapped up after 125 years in the same family.
A Bluff couple bought the 7488sq m - almost two acres - property last Wednesday at auction after "fierce bidding'', Ray White Progressive Realty agent Philip Brough said.
"It was one of the strongest auctions we have had in Southland for some time, let alone Bluff.
"It was an excellent result for a very deserving piece of land ... You could say Bluff was our oyster.''
The property comes with a small crib, but Mr Brough said it was the location, in Ward Parade, Stirling Point, which attracted interest from potential buyers, most of whom were Bluff locals.
"It has arguably the best position in Bluff, with views from Stewart Island and Ruapuke Island to Tiwai Point and Bluff Harbour.''
More than 30 people attended the auction, with eight parties bidding, he said.
Mr Brough would not disclose the sale price but said it was between $400,000 and $500,000.
The property has a rateable value of $170,000. He said the buyers intended to build a new home.
