Couch fires, thefts in Dunedin

Firefighters and police attended couch fires in North Dunedin today.

Dunedin Central Station firefighters were called to a couch fire on the corner of Hanover St and Harrow St just after midnight today.

Willowbank Station firefighters were called to a box on fire in Warrender St in North Dunedin just before 1am, and police extinguished a couch fire on the corner of Leith St and Howe St just after 1am.

- Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said a locked roller door garage in Dundas St, North Dunedin was broken in to between 6.30pm Tuesday and 8.50am yesterday.

A vehicle inside the garage was damaged and the garage door was vandalised with spray paint.

- A wallet with $215 cash was stolen from a glovebox in a car parked outside The Warehouse in Hillside Rd, South Dunedin about 10am yesterday.

- Jewellery worth nearly $9000 - an 18-carat gold fob necklace, an engagement ring with a princess cut diamond and a 30-year-old silver oval shape brooch
with a ''peacock coloured swirl in the middle'' - was stolen from a pewter jewellery box kept in a drawer in a house in Nicholson St, Forbury between February 2 and 20.
