Resident wakes to burglars in bedroom

A sleeping Leith St resident woke up and 'spooked' intruders thought responsible for a burglary that could be linked to another in North Dunedin.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the resident was woken by ''figures'' standing in the bedroom.

The resident said ''hello'', to which the intruders got spooked, swore and promptly left the address.

A laptop and stereo were stolen and there was a possibility that other things were also missing, Snr Sgt Waru said.

The burglars entered the residence through an unlocked sliding door between midnight and 2am yesterday.

A Clyde St address was also burgled and a laptop taken between 6pm on Saturday and 3am yesterday.

A laptop had been reported stolen.

In this case the intruders also came in through an unlocked door.

The two North Dunedin burglaries could be linked, she said.

In another incident, $180 was taken from an unlocked vehicle in Cranley St, Musselburgh over the weekend.

Snr Sgt Waru said in all three instances, property had been left unlocked and it was timely to remind Dunedin residents to lock their homes and secure valuables.
