Southland captain Jamie Mackintosh will miss just the one game as punishment for the red card he picked up last week in his side's heavy loss to Otago.
Mackintosh was ordered from the field in the first half of last week's southern derby at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
He was ruled to have struck Otago prop Hisa Sasagi when part of the Southland defensive line.
Otago went on to win 61-7.
New Zealand Rugby duty judicial officer Nigel Hampton QC accepted a guilty plea from Mackintosh, who was cited for punching or striking a player.
Mackintosh accepted his responsibility for what had occurred.
Hampton found Mackintosh's offence was at the lower end of the scale with an indicative starting point of a two-week suspension.
After finding no aggravating factors needing to be taken into account, and noting the player's admission, plus his long and distinguished playing record, Hampton applied a one-week discount to the period of suspension.
Mackintosh has been suspended from all forms of rugby for one week up to, and including October 4.
He will miss Southland's next ITM Cup match against Hawkes Bay this Sunday in Invercargill.
