Weather disrupts state opening of Parliament

Heavy rain in Wellington is causing some logistical problems for the state opening of Parliament this morning.

The Speaker's office confirmed there was no wet weather plan and that opening events, including the military bands, were still scheduled to go ahead fro 10.30am.

However, the Governor General Anan Satyanand may enter Parliament through a side door rather than the main entrance at the top of the distinctive steps at the front of the building.

The House sits at 11am where the Governor General will read the speech from the Throne, outlining the new National-led Government's plans for the next three years.
