Kurow's farmers market is expected to grow, the inaugural event on Saturday bringing inquiries from people who want to join.
The first day of the market had six stalls and attracted a steady stream of people between 9am and 1pm, mostly locals but also others from as far away as Oamaru and Omarama.
Co-ordinator Val Wilson said she also had inquiries from people wanting to set up stalls and gave out some registration forms.
The market will be held weekly but will skip this Saturday because it clashes with Waimate's annual Strawberry Fare. The next one will be just before Christmas, on December 20.
After that it will run every Saturday until Easter, with expectations it will attract many people on holiday around the Waitaki Lakes over Christmas and New Year.
Some stalls on Saturday sold out of items, the free-range egg stall clearing its stock in an hour.
The "children's corner", with adult supervision, was very popular, giving young people a chance to earn some pocket money.
"It was a wonderful first day, great weather and a good crowd. At the end all the stallholders got together and they were very happy with how it had gone," she said.
