The opening weekend of the new franchise-based one-day tournament saw Eastern Beaches comprehensively outplay the Central Knights and the Saddle Hill Steamers hold off North West Suburbs.
Eastern Beaches reached 233 for nine, thanks to half centuries from Nathan King and PJ Cairns. King's innings of 61 included six fours and came off 80 balls. Cairns' patient knock of 55 included just the one four.
Anthony Bullick bowled well, taking two for 19 from 10 overs and Sam Wells picked up three wickets for 47 from his 10 overs.
The Knights got off to a calamitous start, losing five wickets for seven runs. They recovered slightly, to reach a paltry 74, James Fuller top-scoring with 18.
Otago seamer Warren McSkimming bowled superbly to take five for 21 from eight overs.
In the other match, Jordan Sheed anchored the Steamers' innings of 218 with 54, and Jarrad Waldron added 30.
Colin Aitken nearly guided his side home with a fine undefeated innings of 78, which included three sixes and six fours. But he ran out of partners and Suburbs was dismissed for 183.
