Charges after central city hit-and-run

A 19-year-old Dunedin man will face court after a teenager was dragged down George St after an early morning hit-and-run.

The 19-year-old was charged yesterday with assault, reckless driving and failing to stop and ascertain after a 17-year-old man's leg was operated on after he was hit by a car on George St, near Moray Pl, about 2.30am on Sunday, Senior Sergeant Darryl Lennane said.

The incident followed a confrontation between two groups of people. It was unclear whether the victim was involved in the confrontation.

The vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Legnum station wagon, was later found discarded at Chisholm Links, at St Kilda, by another driver who had followed it.

The 19-year-old was remanded on bail and will appear in the Dunedin District Court on Friday.
