No costume-clad children queued to be the first to purchase her new book, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, when it went on sale in Dunedin on Thursday, but no-one expected them to either.
University Bookshop manager Bill Noble had expected "about a quarter" of the excitement a normal Harry Potter book would attract.
"It's nothing like as big a deal," he said.
About 20 books had been preordered from his store and he had not bothered to check the number of sales the book had made yesterday.
Paper Plus owner Jacqui Brenssell said the store had expected some interest, due to the author, and had sold a few copies, but not to the same level of a Harry Potter book.
