Petty crime continues after Abbotsford warning

Abbotsford continues to be plagued by petty crime.

Less than a fortnight after a police pamphlet drop to warn residents to be vigilant, reports of petty crime continued to stream in, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said.

Five burglaries were reported in the area on Monday night.

In one instance, food was taken from an address in Torquay St and a pouch of tobacco was stolen from a garage in Dall St, Snr Sgt Waru said.

A car was entered in Exmouth St, but nothing was taken from the vehicle.

The burglaries follow a string of thefts of bicycles and scooters in the area.

People needed to be vigilant and lock and secure their homes, cars and possessions, Snr Sgt Waru said.

Possessions should be secured out of sight and anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area should report it to police.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Dunedin police on 471-4800.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
