The Oamaru man found dead at commercial premises in Arun St, Oamaru, on Saturday has been named as Wayne John Ross (46).
Police are describing the death as ''unexpected''. Investigations are continuing.
Police also issued an appeal for any sightings of Mr Ross from when he left a Towey St address at 7pm on Friday to 5pm on Saturday when police found him at the Arun St address.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie said police believed Mr Ross may have had contact with members of the community or made purchases at shops before going to the Arun St address.
Mr Ross was described by police as 178cm tall and of medium build.
He was wearing blue jeans and a two-tone blue chequered jacket with wool skin lining and collar.
Police hoped to complete the scene examination yesterday at the commercial address where Mr Ross was found.
A postmortem was also being completed yesterday. Police expected to release more information today.
