Bass-heads rejoice: it's the mid-2000s again! Well, no. Not quite ...

Dunedin will this week be treated to two top-quality nights of international drum n' bass.

First up tonight, the Hospitality club experience packs into Union Hall, with Hospital Records artists Fred V & GrafiX, S. P. Y, Metrik and Dynamite MC headlining a night of premier liquid bass-heavy music.

Next week, it's a real throwback, with Australia's Pendulum preparing Dunedin for ''the sonic re-creation of the end of the world''.

The group formed in 2002, and after releasing debut album Hold Your Colour in 2005 became one of the world's biggest drum n' bass groups, with the album selling over 300,000 copies.

Set your bpm to 150 and party!

FEASTOCK

Feastock, Dunedin's premier backyard music festival, has announced its line-up.

Featuring dance synth trio Death and the Maiden, the odd party blues of Iron Mammoth, and unknown Christchurch band Kentucky Fried Children, the outdoor festival has strictly limited tickets and will go ahead rain or shine.

Held in a secluded, thickly tree-lined garden in Dalmore, the festival is now in its seventh year.

The official after party is at Re:Fuel.

DUNEDIN RELEASES

A couple of Dunedin-related releases worth mentioning emerged online this week.

The first comes from the now London-based alt-pop outfit Two Cartoons.

I spoke to Isaac McFarlane and Brad Craig in early February about forthcoming EP Lost Boys Club on the strength of lead single Horizon Approaching, and now the whole thing is available for streaming.

That building and plaintive single is paired with the choppy and poppy title track, Harry Actually, and the relaxed ode to smoking, Getting Green.

The second comes from Dunedin indie pop songwriter Peter McCall.

This year has seen McCall, under the moniker Fazed on a Pony, slowly building his discography, following up the incredible and emotive Alone (a song which made my Suitable Alternative top 10 of 2014) with two further releases.

Leave, another stand-alone single, is a little more angular, but just as blue and heavy-hearted, while Spares is one rough, fuzzed-out ditty, and the gentle titular track led by a chiming lead guitar.
