Police inquiries are continuing after a car, possibly travelling at speeds of up to 180kmh, crashed into a garage and hit a parked vehicle just north of Oamaru, on Tuesday night.
Sergeant Wayne Brew said the Mitsubishi Diamante car was driven by a 26-year-old Oamaru man and he had a passenger.
It was travelling on TY Duncan Rd about 8.45pm when it went across the Shortland Rd intersection and crashed, hitting a truck.
The driver spent the night in Oamaru Hospital with possible head injuries.
