About 400 people attended the Otematata Village People Reunion, which started on Friday and ended yesterday.
The event marked 50 years since the dam started producing electricity in 1965 and was officially commissioned by then prime minister Sir Keith Holyoake.
Work started on creating Otematata in 1957 as the construction camp for the Benmore Dam. The first 150 workers arrived in January 1958.
Organiser Vicky Munro said among the 400 attendees were many former construction workers, the oldest 96, along with their families.
The reunion kicked off with a ''meet and greet'' at the Otematata District Club on Friday night.
On Saturday, Meridian Energy ran guided bus tours from Otematata to the dam during the day.
On Saturday night, a dinner was put on at the Otematata Community Centre, followed by an official function and welcome at the Otematata Lakes Hotel.
Yesterday, a fundraising brunch was put on by the Otematata Fire Brigade _ after a callout in the morning.
Mrs Munro said many people also spent time wandering the streets of Otematata, visiting their old homes.
''It's been great ... the whole town was humming,'' she said.
''Everybody has enjoyed it. The town was very positive and open to having these extra guests.''
