Otago Coastal Area commander Inspector Jason Guthrie, of Dunedin, has his hair shaved by Jordan Hill (23) as part of a fundraising event in the Octagon yesterday.
He was one of 10 police officers, including Southern District commander Superintendent Andrew Coster, who were given a new look during the event.
Organiser Debbie Hill, who has been cancer-free for five years, said she was overwhelmed by the response, which included a female officer volunteering to lose her locks.
Funds raised would go towards next week's Relay for Life, which would feature 30 officers in the ''Hot Fuzz'' team.
Supt Coster said the look ''wouldn't be my natural starting point'', but it was for a good cause and showed police's support for their community.
