A crane is used by workers on the Dunedin Hospital helipad yesterday, as part of strengthening work to bring it to 100% earthquake standard.

The Kitchener St helipad will be used instead during the six-week job. Work began on Monday, and the project is costing $118,400.

''The helipad was built to appropriate codes at the time. However, standards and requirements have changed since then,'' Southern District Health Board finance director Peter Beirne said.
