A wheelchair-accessible seesaw in George St, Dunedin, (pictured below) has again been removed because of damage.

The seesaw was taken away by Dunedin City Council contractors yesterday in the interests of public safety and to prevent further wear and stress on the equipment, a council spokesman said.

It remained under warranty and would be repaired or replaced at no cost to the council, he said.

The seesaw was designed mostly to be used by people in wheelchairs.

"It is not designed to be overloaded, wobbled or smashed into the ground," the spokesman said.

"Additional signage is likely to be installed to encourage people to use it responsibly."

The council apologised for any inconvenience.

The seesaw was also removed for repairs in September last year after minor vandalism, and returned to service the following month.
