Man swung strap-on penis at woman

A man who brandished a strap-on penis from his shorts while going to a bank has admitted a charge of offensive behaviour when he appeared in the Greymouth District Court.

Matthew John Miller, 45, was initially charged with an indecent act after he swung the fake appendage at a woman.

However, that was reduced to one count of offensive behaviour, to which Miller pleaded guilty last week.

According to the police summary of facts, Miller pulled up outside the ASB Bank in Greymouth on December 17 last year and walked in to use the ATM, making no attempt to hide the hanging strap-on penis.

After leaving, he yelled out to a woman across the street, drawing her attention to the item which he grabbed and swung around at her before driving off.

Miller also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of shoplifting, dating back to January.

On that occasion, he walked around Woolworths Greymouth placing several items into a shopping bag and walked straight out the door via the self-service checkouts.

Reparation of $180 was sought by the supermarket.

The court heard he was convicted of a separate burglary charge in February, for which he is awaiting sentence.

Judge Jane McMeeken rolled the new charges to run alongside Miller’s appearance for the burglary sentencing on July 2. — Greymouth Star
