The trial of a 14-year-old accused of a fatal stabbing at Dunedin’s bus hub will begin today.

The boy, who was 13 at the time, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 16-year-old Enere McLaren-Taana and has been on bail since July.

The defendant has had name suppression since charges were laid.

Enere was stabbed at the bus hub in Great King St on the afternoon of May 23 last year.

He was rushed to hospital but died later that day.

A jury will be empanelled this morning, in front of Justice Robert Osborne, before Crown and defence make opening statements.

The trial is set down for three weeks.
