The weather came to the party in Central Otago for Christmas celebrations yesterday and temperatures in many places reached about 25degC by lunchtime.
MetService was forecasting a high of 27degC for the region yesterday, with sun and light wind. Shoppers rushing to find last-minute presents on Christmas Eve experienced temperatures about 30degC. Alexandra's temperature reached 34degC about 1pm.
Many people in the region were out enjoying the fine weather early, with many boats on Lake Dunstan by mid-morning and families staking out their spots on the shoreline with brightly coloured rugs and umbrellas.
The fine weather is forecast to stick around today, with a high of 30degC predicted for Central Otago.
However, MetService predicts rain and cloudy weather for the weekend in the region, with highs in the mid-20s and northwesterly winds dying out.
